about
there are a lot of things i really like about this track, but i also remember skot just saying "this one doesn't do anything for me." i can always count on him for honest, constructive feedback. in hindsight, songwise, it's one of the weaker tracks on the record, but i think the subject matter is so important. Also, there's lots of cool stuff musically that i might do slightly differently. i still love the middle and outro sections and how it blends into "burn, baby, burn."
this song deals with something that's huge to me; our propensity as humans to deceive ourselves with skin-deep passion regarding truth and taking a stand for what we believe in, even if it offends people. tolerance has taken on the meaning of "saying that other people who have a completely different belief than you are just as right as you are, even when you both believe opposite things."
if someone is wrong, or believes different, then it's ok, but let's not pretend that somehow something is both black and white, up and down, round and square at the same time. just because we don't agree doesn't mean i don't love you, and tolerance is me accepting that and living it, and not associating you with what i don't agree with about you.
lyrics
consciousness, can we choose to remain in the here and the now? the consequence you sore thumb, dull the pain get blotted out. stand in the crossfire die to yourself embrace that effigy ya non-entity. lay the pride to drown and die in the wake of causality.
polarize, take your side. shall you be accountable to a forsaken pride that has died? polarize, salt and light.
boy you better mean what you say, but don't say what you mean. trapped in this cinema of false harmony where there can be none. no conflux criteria.
just a circle, a dance of logic and trance fuel this trance. you seek not the truth but a hot air balloon, megalomania.
polarize, take your side. push me 'round like a wave of the sea. polarize, salt and light. i am not accountable to this forsaken pride that has died.
such a game of chess, moved by what i know to be the truth. i know you know, help me find and navigate through these land mines.
polarize, take your side. push me 'round like a wave of the sea. polarize, salt and light. i am not accountable to this forsaken pride that has died. we'll look to you, we won't listen to this voice of doubt deep inside.
