As It Were 04:26
all our lives we've felt as prey to a hand that stoops so low to feed. we accept this hand that's dealt by the hand that's come to let us see... he wants and wants, but don't know what he wants. mind and body ache, how much can he take? to the limits, a sick experiment, what ever it takes all this bloodshed and heartache. to the building's ledge, to the water's edge, something's got to give this is no way to live. set free now as it were. as it were, were it so. automaton, sleepwalkin' blinded drone. as it were, were it so, as if you never lost control.

jealous ambition keep with tradition oh outta my head. warring militias, spirits, perdition, wound up on all he said. died, descended, risen with you. stuck here for a while. underneath maelstrom storm of these bullets through all this i see you. get thee behind me, stay out of my way. behind me i put you out go on. get the behind me, no foot in the door today. behind me i cast you out go on. oh speak loud, oh scream out desire to find you all i want to do. whistling bullets, bleeding in thickets, no man's land. only you. this civil war we kill with resistance i watched our nemesis flee. authority is under his feet and lament o'er broken enemy. and i will never be alone. never die 'nor dash my foot against a stone.

Effigy 05:27
let go, i need to be alone. I need to feel control of this body in the throes of the war it has waged with my spirit in this age let go. let go, i need to be alone. i need to feel my spirit disconnected from my soul so i can run this race. i'll see you face to face. don't let go. in my every time of need, you come through and i see you. i long to live life an effigy of the lord of lords and the king of kings. i've been comin' 'part up at the seams. from reality and dreams from reality dreams to the silent centerpiece when i can't feel no peace i scream. oh really does beyond that guilded door lie the hope of something more not just ashes and scorned memories? apart from grand design our hearts inclined away from you. those words, two edged swords left you no choice you rendered your voice. you were not drowned out. by grace we're still in one piece after we endured the sound.

Alien 06:00
you saw me blind in the freezing rain, you called me from the cold. at your doorstep night and day awaiting your prodigals. i have profaned, i have abused. i have destroyed i have misused. you saw me blind in the freezing rain, you called me from the cold. at your doorstep night and day, awaiting your prodigals. walk the streets like an alien if that's how i'm to know you. skeletons, my cup tipped o'er before you. you saw me blind in the freezing rain, called me from the cold. at your doorstep night and day, you await your prodigals. no look back, no wonder if, no water seed of doubt. you're the one who called my name whom i'm no one without. are we there? are we there yet? beg your impatient sons whom you've called away. you define me, purify me, solace find me, my identity.

Non-Entity 05:26
consciousness, can we choose to remain in the here and the now? the consequence you sore thumb, dull the pain get blotted out. stand in the crossfire die to yourself embrace that effigy ya non-entity. lay the pride to drown and die in the wake of causality. polarize, take your side. shall you be accountable to a forsaken pride that has died? polarize, salt and light. boy you better mean what you say, but don't say what you mean. trapped in this cinema of false harmony where there can be none. no conflux criteria. just a circle, a dance of logic and trance fuel this trance. you seek not the truth but a hot air balloon, megalomania. polarize, take your side. push me 'round like a wave of the sea. polarize, salt and light. i am not accountable to this forsaken pride that has died. such a game of chess, moved by what i know to be the truth. i know you know, help me find and navigate through these land mines. polarize, take your side. push me 'round like a wave of the sea. polarize, salt and light. i am not accountable to this forsaken pride that has died. we'll look to you, we won't listen to this voice of doubt deep inside.

there's a girl dying on the floor of a wichita convenience store. i wonder does she feel alone? somebody takes her picture with their phone. it was revealed when they watched the tape, she may not have had to die this way. but there's no time to call an ambulance when in line with lotto tickets in your hands. your word, this world you say it burns away. turned backs to the worldly wiles faced. i don't mean to sound cold-hearted, just to be free from distraction. my essence in your presence, leave the rest of me with this planet. let it burn, baby, burn. don't recall what made the news that week. probably pointless drama and celebrities. i was off in outer space. oftentimes i've wondered how i'll run this race as there's this girl dying on the floor in a wichita convenience store. was there something that i missed when such atrocities just go dismissed? wicked man that i am.

why do the nations rage? plot a vain thing? break a fabled bond? cast the cords away? from the corners of the earth. sands of the sea. surround the holy hills. everyone deceived? these rivers flow proliferation, rapid fire grow with revelation. all the king's horses, all the king's men, great minds of the earth will dissect to comprehend. time, time, time and again, foolishness to God the wisdom of men. coming in the clouds, open flood gates. sacrificial lamb to lion, imago dei. king of kings, lord of lords, it is written and proclaimed. kiss the son 'lest he be angered and you perish in the way.

Laodicea 04:56
did you come out here to see a reed shaken by the wind, up forth from the thorns with poisonous fruit? did you hope to come and find something you could get behind, but not necessarily the truth?
11.
spirit of contentment, why has your antithesis come and put its arm around me? You're the father of lies, deceit, demise. transparent you aim to confound me. grass is green right where I stand, cup of my father's hand. seek his will, he will add to me. come to reclaim your land, but you've no solid ground to stand, terrible will your fall be. i think of sparrows in the air, the flowers in the field, better clothed than solomon in his glory. it's never added to my life, this inherent lack of peace of mind. of more importance are not we? worries of this world call to hark but i won't hear it. my health and my wealth locked securely in the spirit. they say tomorrow brings its troubles great deceiver oh so subtle but today's are enough for today. my car, my will, my kingdom, my bills. i lay at your feet you put 'em on your shoulder. i'm alive young in you i'll never die and this anxiety just makes me feel older.

about

This record was originally put out in September, 2010 under the name Proxima Machina as a solo effort by Randy with help from former Cassiopia band mate Casey Miller providing percussion, Skot Reed and Dave Eichman on additional guitar/vocals and bass respectively (both of Wichita heavyweight .endofstory http:www.endofstory.com).

As time went on, Randy began playing with area musicians to try to put something together under the Proxima Machina moniker and eventually landed with Steve Rice on percussion. However, the music that resulted took a different direction than what Randy had put down on As it Were. In 2013, Randy decided to re-release this under his name as a solo effort on bandcamp.

credits

released September 1, 2010

Randy- Vocals, Lead, Rhythm and Acoustic Guitar
Skot Reed- Lead and Rhythm Guitar and Vocals
Dave Eichman- Bass and Vocals
Casey Miller- Percussion

Cameron Fletcher appears on "Spiritu Umano" courtesy of "Observations and Comments"

All lyrics written by Randy Carrier. Music by Randy Carrier with additional help from all the other guys who appear on the record. This record would not be as cool as it is (in my humble opinion) without their creativity. Produced by Randy Carrier and Skot Reed.

Recorded from August 2009-August 2010 @ Carrier Wave Audio in Kansas City (www.carrierwave.tk) and The Parts Department in Wichita. Recorded by Randy Carrier, mixed by Skot Reed. Mastering by Skot Reed at Mind's Eye in Wichita.

A very special thanks to all of my family and friends who have stuck with me through all of life's punches. Thanks especially to Casey and Jenni Miller, Skot Reed and Dave Eichman, perhaps four of the truest friends a man can have and four of the best human beings I know.

It's truly awesome to be able to make a record with your absolute favorite guitar player, singer, bassist, drummer and independent internet talk radio personality.
