about

before i get into concept, this song would not be what it is without skot and dave. the vocals and bass and other stuff just really made this track.

this track was written about an incident that happened in wichita concerning a young woman who was stabbed in a convenience store. when the ambulance arrived and they couldn't revive her, people started to ask questions because her wounds, in and of themselves, were not considered to be life threatening.

the viewing of the security tape revealed the fact that crucial minutes passed between the woman being stabbed and 911 being called. during that time, people stepped over her to make purchases and took pictures with their cell phones.

when i heard this, it just made me sick. it made me think of all the selfishness in this world (mine included) and i had one of those cynical moments where i was happy that this wouldn't last forever, that there is right and there is justice despite everything bad that happens. however, the flipside of that is we've all got justice to deal with and our own wickedness to overcome on one level or another.

i was reminded of paul, who everyone calls "st paul," who referred to himself as the 'chief of sinners' and 'wicked man.'

read romans 7 sometime.

lyrics

there's a girl dying on the floor of a wichita convenience store. i wonder does she feel alone? somebody takes her picture with their phone. it was revealed when they watched the tape, she may not have had to die this way. but there's no time to call an ambulance when in line with lotto tickets in your hands.

your word, this world you say it burns away. turned backs to the worldly wiles faced. i don't mean to sound cold-hearted, just to be free from distraction. my essence in your presence, leave the rest of me with this planet.

let it burn, baby, burn.

don't recall what made the news that week. probably pointless drama and celebrities. i was off in outer space. oftentimes i've wondered how i'll run this race as there's this girl dying on the floor in a wichita convenience store. was there something that i missed when such atrocities just go dismissed?

wicked man that i am.
